Reference Anything is an enhancement for the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) @ menu. It brings multiple reference sources into one searchable menu, so you can mention the context you need without switching tools or copying content manually.
After typing @, you can browse and click items in the menu with your mouse, or use the keyboard to enter text, search, and narrow down the results.

Beyond extending what @ can reference, Reference Anything also enhances the @ menu itself:

Type @, search across enabled sources, and insert the selected reference into the current task. Each source keeps its own access and loading behavior: files use DSH's permission-constrained tools, DSH sessions use the native session-reference protocol, local agent transcripts are streamed straight off disk, cloud-drive files are fetched a window at a time over the drive's own API, and external conversation bodies are read on demand.
The External conversations group — and only that group — uses OpenCLI to reach AI chat sessions you are already logged into. By default it stores conversation titles locally and the agent fetches remote content on demand; an optional offline-mirror mode stores the latest complete bodies locally instead. Local agent conversations need none of that: those transcripts are already files on your own disk, so that group reads them directly, with no browser, no OpenCLI, and nothing mirrored.

[!NOTE] DSH is currently in Beta, so its underlying capabilities and interfaces may change as it evolves. This plugin will adapt alongside those changes. Because of some current DSH limitations, parts of the implementation may not yet be ideal; we will continue to follow DSH updates and improve the plugin over time. See the relevant sections below for specific limitations and usage notes.

📦 Installation
Prerequisites:
dshis installed and running; automatic OpenCLI installation requires thenpmbundled with Node.js.- The target platforms are already logged in under the selected Chrome Profile.
Install the DSH plugin from npm:

For development, install the published DSH rc.8 SDK dependencies, run the verification gate, then install the repository from a local path:

After installing the DSH plugin, open Settings → Reference Anything → Availability check in DSH Web (restart DSH first if this settings entry is not yet visible), then click One-click setup. It discovers OpenCLI; installs or upgrades it globally through npm when it is missing or older than 1.8.6; installs the bundled adapters for all six platforms; starts or refreshes Browser Bridge; and opens the OpenCLI Browser Bridge page in the Chrome Web Store. Confirm the extension installation, then return and click Recheck setup. Any remaining failed check displays its own recovery action.
You can also install OpenCLI and the conversation adapter manually, then start Browser Bridge:

Replace C:/path/to/dsh-reference-anything with the repository location. Browser extensions cannot be silently installed from a webpage; confirm the installation in the Chrome Web Store, or download an extension package from OpenCLI Releases and use “Load unpacked.” If the browser blocks the store popup, the settings page keeps a normal fallback link. When multiple browser profiles are connected, select and apply one directly in the failed check. Global npm installation remains subject to OS permissions; failures retain their original diagnostic in the settings page.
🚀 Usage
Reference Anything registers seven sources in the native DSH @ menu rather than introducing a separate search interface. Settings let you choose which groups appear, their order, their collapsed row count, their hard candidate cap, and whether groups use plugin-owned collapse actions or the native scrolling list. A separate one-click control switches the visible picker back to DSH's official file/session list without stopping the plugin, synchronization service, local data, or model-facing tools; the same control restores the Reference Anything picker at any time.

The default Read bodies on demand mode stores only the title index locally and uses the browser when an agent calls reference_read. Choose Store full bodies locally for offline reading and full-text search; this mode keeps only the latest version of each conversation. The Composer uses native DSH reference occurrences for files, DSH sessions, and external conversations; Reference Anything adds source-specific logos without replacing native wrapping, caret, selection, deletion, draft, clipboard, or serialization behavior. The plugin checks npm for updates when it loads; restart DSH after installing an update from the settings page.
[!WARNING] To protect your account and conversation data, external conversations are imported and synchronized through OpenCLI using your existing logged-in browser session. A browser window may temporarily open during use or synchronization. In most cases, leave it open in the background: the plugin will reuse it without interrupting your work. The window may also display OpenCLI debugging information. This is expected—please do not be alarmed or close it manually; wait for the operation to finish. Due to current OpenCLI limitations, we temporarily use slower serial synchronization to reduce how often browser windows open. Once the upstream OpenCLI repository is updated, we will switch to faster parallel synchronization.
🧩 One @ menu, multiple sources
The @ menu contains seven groups: Commands, Skills, Files and folders, DSH sessions, Local agent conversations, External conversations, and Cloud drive files. Each group shows six rows before its expand action by default and accepts a separate hard candidate cap from 1 to 50. In collapse mode, each expand action reveals five more rows and updates the mounted menu without jumping back to the top; collapse restores the configured compact count. The external-conversation group keeps its sync action first and updates that row and the visible results in place while synchronization runs and completes. Under Settings → Reference Anything → General, you can enable or disable groups, reorder them, and choose Collapse / expand or Native DSH scrolling.

💬 @DSH sessions — DSH session history
Type @sessions: to browse DSH sessions through the official session-reference Remote.
Selected sessions use DSH's canonical dsh-session: mention and native session appearance. Snapshot preparation and resolution remain owned by DSH rather than this plugin.
🖥️ @Local agent conversations — transcripts other local agents leave on disk
Type @agents: to browse the sessions other agent CLIs have already written into your home directory, and reference one the same way you reference a DSH session.
In Settings → Reference Anything, the fourteen local Agent cards sit alongside the ChatGPT, Gemini, and other conversation-provider cards. Each Agent can be enabled or disabled independently; disabling one removes its sessions from new @agents: searches without invalidating references that are already in a draft or an existing conversation. Selected local-Agent references use a small robot icon in the composer, while browser conversation references keep their Provider logos.
This group is reference-only. Nothing is copied into DSH's session store and no transcript is converted or rewritten: candidates carry a pointer, and the file on disk is streamed only when the model calls reference_read. Its serialized form matches the other reference groups:

An agent whose directory does not exist is treated as not installed rather than as an error, so the menu simply omits it. Additional roots can be added through extraRoots, each with the format it holds; roots are written ~/-relative so a profile stays portable between machines.
The last three formats are databases, not files. opencode, mimocode, and zcode keep every session they have ever run in one SQLite file rather than one file per conversation, so each conversation is listed on its own and its reference id names both the database and the session inside it (opencode:opencode.db#ses_…). Reading them needs Node's built-in node:sqlite, which exists from Node 22.5; on an older runtime those three simply do not list. Set sqlite: false to keep the driver out of the process entirely — with no root of those kinds resolved, no database is ever opened. A database read is bounded by maxSessionRecords (2000 messages, counted from the newest) rather than by maxScanBytes, because a database cannot be streamed the way a JSONL file can.
[!NOTE] Only Claude Code and Codex were validated against real transcripts (541 and 212 sessions respectively on the machine this was developed on). The other twelve adapters were written from format documentation and are covered only by synthetic fixtures: the nine file formats by
tests/local-agent-converters.spec.ts, and the three databases bytests/local-agent-sqlite.spec.ts, which builds genuine SQLite files to the documented schema — real enough to pin the queries, but still not a corpus. They ship enabled, but treat an unexpected result from one of them as a bug worth reporting rather than as your transcript being empty.
Prefix collisions with External conversations: bare @claude:, @gemini:, @grok:, and @kimi: keep meaning the browser platform, because that is what the bare word means to most people. The on-disk CLI transcripts of those same brands are reachable only under their qualified names — @claude-code:, @gemini-cli:, @grokbuild:, @kimi-cli:.
Scope: by default only transcripts whose recorded working directory matches the current session's are listed, so opening @ in one project does not enumerate every conversation on the machine. Set scope: 'all' (or type @agents:all) to widen it.
Reading: adjacent assistant records are merged into one turn and tool results are dropped, so a turn count here will not match the record count the originating agent's own UI shows. Thinking blocks are dropped unless includeThinking is set, tool calls render as [tool: Bash] under the default toolCalls: 'elide', and a transcript larger than maxScanBytes (32 MiB) is read anchored to its tail and reported as partial rather than truncated silently. Attachments are inlined as text notes; this group emits no attachment handles.
Two formats are still left out:
- ChatGPT web exports — not for the original reason. A
conversations.jsonholds many conversations at once, which is exactly what the three databases above do, and thefile#idscheme built for them would carry it too. What is left is that an export is a snapshot the user has to produce by hand and re-produce to refresh, while the same history is already live in theExternal conversationsgroup. Reachable, then, but not yet built. - DSH's own
~/.dsh/sessions— already reachable through theDSH sessionsgroup underdsh-session:. Adding it here would put the same conversation in the menu twice under two different schemes.
🌐 @External conversations — external conversation platforms
Supports historical conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok, and Kimi.

Search capabilities:
- Title match: fuzzy search on conversation titles
- Content search: available only in Store full bodies locally mode; if title matches are insufficient, synchronized bodies are searched and matching excerpts are shown in the candidate list
- Provider and account isolation: history is maintained separately by Provider and account scope
@search uses the account scope cached by the latest sync and never probes the browser; after a sync observes an account switch, it exposes only that account while older rows remain available in conversation management for cleanup
Reference display: after selection, the draft shows a native removable DSH reference with the Provider logo. Its stable serialized form is:

Opening the source URL happens only in the UI; the URL is never injected into model context. The initial reference contains only a safe pointer; if the model needs the body, it calls reference_read on demand.
☁️ @Cloud drive files — OpenList text and document references
Type @drive:, @cloud:, @netdisk:, or @网盘 to search supported files mounted in OpenList and reference one without first downloading it into the workspace. A new reference has an OpenList-backed opaque id:

One-click managed install. In Settings → Cloud drives, choose Enable OpenList. Reference Anything downloads and runs the managed OpenList v4.2.2 binary locally; its connection data is stored host-only, never in the Cordis patch or reference payload. The managed endpoint is loopback HTTP. You may instead connect an external OpenList: non-loopback endpoints must use HTTPS, while localhost/127.0.0.1 HTTP is allowed.
API Pages. First connect an OpenList admin session. Then open api.oplist.org and paste its authorization result into the selected driver's masked field. A single scalar token is accepted only when that driver has exactly one authorization field; multi-field results (for example access plus refresh credentials) must be pasted as a JSON object or one key=value entry per line. Field names must match the dynamic OpenList driver schema. The values are cleared after submission and are never used as an OpenList admin token. OpenList API Pages is an official hosted service/source; it is not copied into this package.
Quick versus advanced connection. The separate Quick login list is a Host-curated allowlist of API Pages providers: OneDrive, Aliyun, Baidu, Quark, 115, 123Pan, Dropbox, Google Drive/Photo, and Yandex. Other drivers, including drivers that merely have OAuth-looking field names, stay in Advanced connection.
Add your drives dynamically. Once connected, the panel reads the available OpenList driver schemas from that server. Choose a driver, complete only the fields it requires, and select a mount path. Driver credentials stay in OpenList on the host; the plugin never puts them in its config, candidates, references, or model context. Removing a mount does not delete cloud files.
Database search index. A managed instance is configured for OpenList's database index and automatic index updates at startup. Adding a managed mount schedules an update for that mount path; Reindex starts OpenList's global index build and the mount cards show sanitized global progress. External instances are never reconfigured automatically, although an explicit Reindex uses their global build endpoint.
If an external instance has no usable search index, Reference Anything falls back to a bounded directory traversal. Those candidates are visibly marked Results may be incomplete; the traversal never changes the file path or reference id.
Read-only reference scope. The integration lists and reads only supported mounted files you select. It never changes remote files, and the model can read a file only after you name that reference in the current task. Signed download URLs and credentials remain host-local.
Migration. Old baidu: and pds: reference IDs are deliberately disabled. Re-select the file through OpenList to create a new reference; old per-provider credential files and direct provider configuration are no longer read.
Upgrade and rollback. The managed binary is deliberately pinned to v4.2.2: there is no automatic “latest” upgrade. An older managed version shows an explicit Upgrade action that transactionally installs the pinned release; the same version shows Repair install. A version newer than the compatibility target is reported as unsupported and is never misleadingly downgraded. External servers are never upgraded or rolled back by this plugin.
Reading asks for the document. A read requests the first maxReadBytes (64 KiB by default) as a byte range. If the drive answers with the whole file instead of the range it was asked for, the provider notices, demotes itself permanently, and keeps honouring the cap rather than absorbing a multi-gigabyte body. A truncated read is reported as partial rather than cut silently.
At 4000 characters a block, 64 KiB is at most seventeen blocks, which fits inside one reference_read page — so an ordinary text file comes back whole, from its beginning. Raising maxReadBytes buys reach at the cost of a first page that lands at the end of the file and pages backwards: the right shape for a conversation, an awkward one for a document.
Text and on-demand document files. Files on the configurable extensions allowlist are decoded as text; a read whose bytes turn out to be binary is refused instead of emitting mojibake. Common documents, spreadsheets, presentations, PDFs, and images use an explicit file attachment handle and are downloaded only through reference_attachment_read. Other extensions and directories stay out of the reference results.
Download directory. Under Settings → Cloud drives, choose a host directory for those on-demand document downloads, or leave it blank to use the system temporary directory. An absolute host path can always be entered manually if the native folder picker is unavailable. Each file is materialized inside a new random dsh-reference-drive-* child directory; the plugin cleans up only that child, never the selected base directory or its other contents. Successful downloads expire after one hour, while failed downloads and plugin disposal clean up immediately. This setting applies only to cloud-drive attachments—Web-conversation attachments continue to use the system temporary directory.
Authorization. These are your personal remote files, so this group uses the same per-task gate as the external conversations: the model may read a drive file only after you named it in the current task. A signed download URL never leaves the host — it appears in no candidate, no reference summary, and no error text.
[!NOTE] OpenList is the only cloud-drive transport. Add providers as OpenList mounts; a drive name without an implementation is a startup error rather than a silently empty group.
General notes:
- Use
:or/as the separator instead of a space: the@candidate token ends at a space, so@chatgpt keywordcloses the menu as soon as you press the space. For multi-word searches, write@cachedesignor@cache-design. - Without a type prefix, all groups are searched at once.
- Commands and Skills are handed back to DSH's native slash-command handling after selection; the native
/panel remains available. - Switching the picker back to DSH's official file/session list hides every plugin-owned group, including
Local agent conversationsandCloud drive files. The host source stays registered, so an already-inserted reference still expands andreference_readstill works; only the menu entry is gone until you switch back.

This does not include the legacy standalone DeepSeek CDP / --remote-debugging-port collector. All six platforms use the OpenCLI Provider adapter path, avoiding duplicate browser-reading implementations.
🤖 Model-facing Protocol
A reference produces an untrusted-data envelope alongside the current user request. The initial envelope contains only pointers and never the conversation body:

- The agent calls
reference_read({ uri, limit, cursor })only when it needs the body. Turns in each page are in chronological order, and pagination moves from newer pages toward older ones. - For the initial
deferred=trueitem, the first call passes onlyuriand does not send an emptynextCursor. - In offline-mirror mode,
reference_readpaginates over the current revision. In metadata-only mode, each read requests content from the Provider again and validates the cached account scope inside that same browser operation. Missing, account-mismatch, and fetch errors instruct the agent to ask for a Provider sync before retrying. beforeis kept only as a deprecated compatibility parameter and cannot be combined withcursor.- A mention or
reference_listgrants the current task permission to read that URI; unauthorized URIs are rejected. - Each conversation keeps only the latest revision. Cursors for older revisions expire after content changes.
reference_attachment_readvalidates the task grant and, for Web conversations, verifies that the active provider account still matches the account scope captured by sync. A mismatch is rejected with guidance to sync that provider and reselect the conversation.- Attachments are capped at 25 MiB while streaming. PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF may render inline; every other format, including SVG, is returned as an ordinary temporary file. Successful files expire after one hour, and failures or plugin disposal remove them immediately.
- Sync stores attachment metadata and same-origin locators, not temporary signed URLs. Attachments are classified as
imageorfile; empty URLs and site-root paths are not marked as available. - Unreadable attachments add a model-facing notice such as
[User attached 1 image; image contents were not included]without altering the original conversation text.
💾 Sync and Storage
The reference_anything storage domain contains:

Remote records are marked remoteMissing only after a full remote pagination pass succeeds. Local history is never auto-deleted. DOM fallback is used only after an API request fails, and fallback data is always marked partial=true.
In metadata-only mode, the current browser account is checked inside the same detail operation that reads a referenced body; reads are rejected when it does not match the account scope cached by sync. Conversation management includes bulk actions for records marked remoteMissing and for local chats owned by non-current accounts of providers whose current account is known.
